Asama Onsen is a hot spring with a rich history of over 1300 years. It is believed that Asama Hot Springs were well-known as the area is also the location of tombs of famous powerful historic figures. It was frequented by the lord of Matsumoto Castle in the Edo period and in the Meiji period, loved and frequented by many writers, from Akiko Yosano to Yumeji Takehisa.

Surrounded by nature and steeped in history and culture is Asama Onsen, an onsen as familiar to locals as Matsumoto Castle.

As the name implies, this shrine is believed to be occupied by four gods. The first god Amenominakanushi, is said to harmonize the power of the second two gods. The second two gods, Takamimusubi and Kamimusubi are said to have powers of uniting and making flourish. The fourth god, Amaterasu-ōmikami, is an all-powerful god who is said to inhabit Ise Shrine and the grounds of the home of the emperor. The power of this god is said to be what enables the other three gods to inhabit this 4 pillar shrine harmoniously.

This type of shrine, believed to be inhabited by multiple gods of power, is extremely rare in Japan and is, as such, a place where people from around the nation gather to have their wishes heard and granted.

西暦698年の飛鳥時代、日本食に登場する束間であろうと推定されています。地には天武天皇に仕えていた有力な氏族の古墳が数多く見つかっていることからも、この頃から都にも知られていたことがうかがわれます。

江戸時代には松本城のお殿様が通い、明治時代には与謝野晶子や竹久夢二ら多くの文人に愛されました。

大自然に囲まれ、また、歴史と文化に培われ、国宝のお城の城下町である松本の奥座敷として庶民に親しまれてきた、好ロケーションの温泉…それが浅間温泉です。

武の神である諏訪明神への信仰に始まり、のち城下町の形成とともに地域の守り神（産土神・うぶすなかみ）として展開し、特に天満宮は学問の神として崇敬され、人々から「深志（深き志し）の天神さま」と敬いと親しみをこめて称され、篤い信頼と祈り・願いが寄せられてきました。

平成14年、氏子・崇敬者の皆さま方の真心のこめられた奉賛により、御祭神菅原道真公御正忌1100年大祭と記念行事が盛大に斎行され、記念事業として社殿・境域が全面的に改修整備され、いやますますの御神徳（みたまのふゆ）が人々より仰がれています。

御祭神の天之御中主神は御名の示します通り、天の中央

に坐します主の神として産霊神の御はたらきを統一される

神様です。

高皇産霊神・神皇産霊神は宇宙創造の根元の神様で、

御神名の「むすびの神」は実をむすぶ、苔がむす等と同様に

生産し、果実し、調和させる力を示します。

造化の三神とも申し上げるこの神々の御力によって、

天地万物が生成されたと言われています。

天照大神はこの造化の三神の御神意を地上に顕現され

る神様で伊勢の神宮、宮中賢所にも奉斎される最高至貴

の大祖神様です。

このような大変に高い御神徳の神様を主祭神としてお祀り申し上げる神社は全国でも珍しく、全ての願いが相叶うという意味で「願いごとむすびの神」として全国各地より

御崇敬をいただいているそうです。
