Located on the outskirts of Matsumoto City, the Matsumoto Folkcraft Museum is a traditionally styled building situated in a quiet neighborhood. Craft store owner and operator, Mr. Tarō Maruyama, was moved to construct the building after being thoroughly impressed by the Mingei folk art movement begun by Mr. Yanagi Sōetsu. The museum displays not only numerous Matsumoto Mingei folk art furniture works, but also various other types of craft items. Regardless of region, or even country, if they are folk craft goods, items have been gathered from far and wide and are on display for the enjoyment of visitors.
